Mentally ill girl found murdered

A 21-year-old mentally ill girl was found murdered in a secluded place near Govindanpet under Mettupalayam police station limits here on Thursday evening.

Gorimedu Police Inspector Viravallabane said the girl’s body was found hidden, covered with mud, leaves and stones at a place near her house in Govindanpet.

The girl’s family members noticed that she was missing since Thursday afternoon.  Her parents, who were away at work, were informed and frantic efforts were made to trace her. When they failed to find the girl,  they approached the police, who launched a search for her.

After hours of search, police found the body of the girl hidden at a place near her house.

Police suspect it to be case of murder for gain as the anklets on the girl’s body were missing. The body has been sent for post-mortem. Further investigations are on.
