1. Original Name - Qureshi: Zakir Hussain’s family name wasn’t always Hussain. Born into a family of musicians, his original surname was Qureshi, but he later adopted the surname Hussain, following in the footsteps of his renowned father, Ustad Allah Rakha.

2. Child prodigy: Zakir’s musical journey began at an incredibly young age. He gave his first performance when he was just seven years old, showcasing his prodigious talent early on. By the age of 12, he began touring, taking his musical skills across India and abroad.

3. Film Debut: Apart from his tabla skills, Zakir Hussain also ventured into cinema. He made his film debut in 1989 with Heat and Dust, a British drama film. Not only did Zakir act in the film, but he also composed the soundtrack.
