At least 31 lives are lost as heavy rains battered Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Prakasam Barrage received a significant surplus water of 8,79,476 cusecs as on Sunday, all its 70 gates have been lifted.

On Saturday night, a breach in the Budameru Diversion Channel (BDC) caused the rivulet to overflow, with water levels rising by the minute. By early Sunday, several localities near the Budameru rivulet were inundated with floodwaters, disrupting normal life. Approximately 2,76,000 people, mostly residents of slums in these areas, were affected. 

The Telangana government on Monday stepped up relief measures following heavy rains in the state which led to the death of at least nine people and inundation of low-lying areas.

Traffic on the Hyderabad - Vijayawada National Highway was diverted due to rainwater overflowing on the road.

The Secunderabad-headquartered South Central Railway cancelled train services, while diverting some others.

The Met Centre of IMD here said extremely heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Adilabad district on Monday.
