Hero Motocorp Impulse Inspiration Behind Upcoming 160cc Honda Bike?

A couple of months ago, Honda announced the introduction of a 160cc bike in India and recently, in Brazil, the company has launched an adventure motorcycle with 160cc engine. The bike is christened as NXR 160 Bros and is designed on the lines of Hero MotoCorp Impulse. Now the only question arises is that whether this bike is going to be the prospective 160cc bike or not?

Honda NXR 160 Bros completely resembles the Hero MotoCorp Impulse. It is simply the other way round, first Hero used Honda’s design and now Honda is turning the tables. But Honda has given the motorcycle its touch with a sharp rear end, angular headlight and shrouds.

Coming back to the NXR 160 Bros, it features a new 162.7cc, single cylinder, 4-stroke, air-cooled, OHC engine mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The engine incorporates PGM-FI for better acceleration, more mileage and to reduce air pollution. The motor is tuned to deliver maximum power output of 14.3bhp at 8,500rpm with 14.3Nm at 5,500rpm.

Being the world’s second largest producer of ethanol fuel, Brazil makes flexible fuel vehicles. Therefore, the NXR can choose between Gasoline and Ethanol. However, the Indian version will not get such an option. Furthermore, the exhaust primary tube comes with an expansion chamber that sounds and exhales better at low rpm.

Honda NXR 160 Bros gets onboard longer suspension travel, light weight design and fully digital instrumentation. It runs on spoke wheels enveloped in on/off road tyres connect to front disc brake and rear disc (optional). The lighting of the bike is superior as it receives polycarbonate headlamp with multi-reflector and double glass layered tail light.

In Brazil, Honda is offering NXR 160 Bros in two variants- ESD and ESDD (with rear disc) priced at R$ 9,350 (approx Rs. 2.24 lakh) and R$ 9,650 (approx Rs. 2.31 lakh) respectively. Still after the domestic production of the machine, it will be priced competently with the Hero Impulse, which is priced at Rs. 72,267 (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
