Jaguar Land Rover India has launched the Discovery Sport in the country at Rs. 46.10 lacs (ex-showroom, Mumbai) which is the new premium SUV from the British automaker. The bookings for the vehicle has already started in August which means we would be able to see the beautiful SUV on Indian roads very soon. This new version of the popular SUV is quite modern and contemporary as far as design is concerned for both interior and exterior. Based on the response for bookings of Discovery Sport, the premium SUV already seems like a success.
Discovery Sport hold loads of luxurious features which makes the SUV quite versatile from the point of view of interior facilities while also scoring in terms of off-roader ability. Inside the vehicle, there is a lot of airiness and passengers at the back would feel comfortable enough to stretch their legs and not be tired even for long journeys.
Overall 7 persons can travel inside Discovery Sport with ease which adds to the utility of the car but in terms of aesthetics, the car does a great job as well offering a top class dashboard that features a media navigation touchscreen unit that can be used for moving to the desired destination with ease. The look and the feel along with the information provided by the instrumentation cluster has improved significantly compared to what the previous version had to offer.
The engine looks quite capable as well and features an impressive set of specs under the hood. We see a 2.2 litre diesel motor that has a 9 speed automatic gearbox to work with, which should enhance the smoothness and through which drivers would be able to tackle traffic on the road and counter different kinds of condition. The engine is able to carve away 150PS power and deliver a peak torque of 400Nm which is again more than favorable. As a result, we see some whopping numbers as well including the ability to go from a standstill to 100kmph in just 10.3 seconds, which is simply marvelous.
Further, the top speed that Discovery Sport can attain is 180kmph which is again very good whereas we see a more than reasonable mileage too. With 12.3kmpl of fuel economy, buyers would be more than happy considering these are very good figures for a SUV of such size.
The price for the SUV is pretty reasonable which can be attributed to the Completely Knocked Down unit route. The top end variant with the 5+2 seating configuration will cost Rs. 62.18 lacs (ex-showroom, Mumbai) Land Rover is renowned and revered name across the globe and the Indian car enthusiasts have the same affection for the brand.
Currently Land Rover has a handful of models on offer for the Indian market including the flagship model Range Rover, Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Sport and Discovery 4. Range Rover Evoque is being manufactured locally and therefore, is the stand out among the list. How this new model would be able to hold up against the competition is something that only time will tell, but currently, based on the initial response of over 200+ bookings, Discovery Sport seems like a hit.
