Mahindra Heats Up the 'Kool' Club

The KUV100 is set to be more user-friendly, especially on the urban roads.

Mahindra & Mahindra is ready to launch yet another utility vehicle and this time it is KUV100, where ‘KUV’ stands for ‘Kool Utility Vehicle’, writes Ammar Alvi.

While Mahindra calls it a compact SUV, it is expected to compete with the heavyweights in the hatchback segment. This would be only the second product ever in the Mahindra line-up to have a monocoque chassis, the first one being the XUV500.

While XUV500 has proper SUV credentials, the KUV100 is set to be more user-friendly, especially on the urban roads. The first look, however, gives a completely different impression.

The KUV100 will be less than four metres in length, and it is definitely taller than some of its competitors. With the large proportions, coupled with the muscular fenders, strong lines on rear wheel arches, KUV100 looks set to have a very unique road presence.

Mahindra is also all set to enter into a whole new era of technology as it will launch a petrol engine and its success will be critical for the company in the future. The mFalcon 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol (mFalcon G80) is based on SsangYong Tivoli’s 1.6 -litre engine and will produce 82 bhp@5500 rpm and a max torque of 115 Nm@3500-3600 rpm.

In diesel, however, KUV100’s 1.2 litre mFalcon D75 produces max power of 77 bhp @ 3750 rpm and torque of 190 Nm @ 1750-2250 rpm and is rated to be one of the most sought-after engines.

KUV100 will be available in seven trims namely K2 & K2+, K4 & K4+, K6 & K6+ and K8. Mahindra has announced that KUV100 will have ABS as standard across all variants and dual airbags will be optional right from the base variant.

The higher variants are expected to come fully loaded with infotainment system, daytime running lights, micro-hybrid feature and driving modes. It will be available in seven colours—fiery orange, flamboyant red, dazzling silver, aquamarine, pearl white, designer grey and midnight black.
