Get set for Hyundai’s new family car, next Diwali

KOCHI: Hyundai Motor India will roll out its new compact family car in the country in 2018. The new car will be priced between the range of Eon and Grand i10, two of Hyundai’s best selling models.

The new family car is expected to fill the space of one of Hyundai’s most popular models- Santro. “The new family car will be rolled out in the Indian market by 2018 Diwali,” said Hyundai CEO and managing director Young Key Koo.

Koo was in Kochi in connection with the launch of its mid-sized sedan Hyundai Verna.

The new version Verna which is priced between  Rs 7.9 lakh and Rs 12.6 lakh is expected to compete with sedans like Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and Volkswagen Vento.

“The vehicle is perfectly engineered to deliver excellence in all core areas- whether it is style, design, performance, infotainment system, technology, safety, ride and handling. The new Verna will set a new benchmark in the sedan segment,” Koo added.

The introductory price of Verna will be applicable for the first 20,000 customers only, and the company will take a price hike after the initial sales. Powered by 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines, the variants are available in both manual and automatic transmissions.

“All new Verna is based on the k2 platform. We have invested nearly Rs 1040 crore for research and development of the same,” added Koo. Hyundai will also launch two new models every year till 2020. “Our plan is to launch two new models every year, that is eight new models between 2017 and 2020,” added Koo.
