BENGALURU: This IT professional relocated to Pune from Bengaluru along with his bike about 11 months ago. But challans for violations of traffic rules still continue to haunt him.
The latest challan for violation of lane discipline was delivered to Alok Hiriyur’s Bengaluru home last week. It was the fourth notice slapped on him after his relocation from the city.
It was for violating the lane discipline by a vehicle bearing his bike’s registration number at Chennamma Circle in Banashankari traffic police station limits on February 11, 2017.

A puzzled Hiriyur told Express over the phone from Pune that he is being repeatedly fined for offences he has never committed.
He said there is no evidence for the alleged violations as they were manually recorded by the traffic police. As there are no CCTV cameras at Chennamma Circle, there is no electronic proof, he said, adding there were no evidences in the previous instances too.
“Either someone is misusing the registration number of my bike or the traffic cops are simply imposing fines to generate revenue,” Hiriyur said.
“I have lodged several complaints but unfortunately no action has been taken so far”, he said.
Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) R Hithendra said, in some cases, motorists get wrong challans because of fake or defective number plates. “Challan is generated automatically. So there are some possibilities of the error if it is a defective number plate”.
However, this does not exactly answer the contention of Hiriyur who said the “violations” were recorded “manually”.
