Car sales see moderate growth in July

Car sales in India witnessed moderate growth during July with major manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Tata Motors reporting rise in their monthly numbers amid a difficult market condition.

Car sales in India witnessed moderate growth during July with major manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Tata Motors reporting rise in their monthly numbers amid a difficult market condition. Two-wheeler makers such as Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India and Suzuki Motorcycle reported rise in July sales.

The lockout at its Manesar plant notwithstanding, the country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India said its domestic sales in last month stood at 71,024 units compared to 66,504 units in July last year, up 6.80 per cent.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) registered aggregate sales of 52,845 units (49,666), up 6.4%. Domestic sales were 27,585 units (25,642), up 7.6% and exports stood at 25,260 units (24,024), a 5.1% increase.

Tata Motors commercial and passenger vehicles sales recorded a 15% YoY increase as the company sold 73,491 vehicles. Domestic sales were 68,627 units (57,990), an increase of 18%. The company’s sales of domestic commercial vehicles in July were 42,387 nos (40,798), a 4% growth.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor registered a growth of 7% as the automaker sold 14,574 (13, 592). Their best seller, Innova registered a 39% growth with 6,678 units (4,816) ,a growth of 24%. Etios sold 6,024 units while Corolla Altis recorded sales of 540 units.

Ford India sold 8,323 domestic wholesale and export units in July. The company sold 6,236 (7,504)wholesale units in the domestic market. During July, Ford India also commissioned its expanded engine plant in Chennai, increasing annual engine production capacity 36 per cent to 3,40,000.

Auto major Mahindra & Mahindra’s domestic sales stood at 42,799 units (37,323), up 14.67 per cent.

Nissan Motor India said its sales for July increased by over two-fold at 3,481 units (1,593).

However, General Motors India posted 23.38 per cent decline in sales at 7,285 units (9,508 units).

In the two-wheeler segment, TVS Motor Company reported a 15.1 per cent dip in sales at 1,61,255 units (1,89,962).

Suzuki Motor Corporation, recorded a 48.76% growth in their two-wheeler segment as the company sold 40295 units (27088).

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India reported 56.90 per cent growth in total sales at 2,39,094 units (1,52,382 units).
