Finance Minister P Chidambaram will be burning the ‘weekend oil’ in his attempt to bring the stuttering Indian economy back on track. The hard task master has asked the entire ministry to work this Saturday, while joint secretaries and above have been asked to work on the coming Sunday as well.

“Coming from him (Chidambaram) is not surprising at all. He has a task at hand and will ensure it is carried with professionally,” a ministry official said requesting anonymity.

Chidambaram has taken over the reins at a time when the Indian economy is in the throes of economic slowdown and is now threatened by deficient monsoon putting pressure on  already high food inflation.
