Bharti Airtel profit slides 37% on higher costs

Bharti Airtel says its quarterly profit fell 37 percent on rising costsin India's hypercompetitive telecom market. India's largest wireless operatorsays net income for the April-June quarter was 7.62 billion rupees ($141million), down from 12.2 billion rupees ($272 million) a year earlier.
Revenues for the quarter were 193.5 billion rupees ($3.6 billion), up 14percent from 169.7 billion rupees a year ago.
The stock fell 3.7 percent in morning trade in Mumbai.
Bharti has 261 million customers in 17 countries.
