Superstorm Sandy: TCS, Infy, Wipro issue advisory to staff in US

Indian IT companies TCS, Infosys,Wipro and HCL Technologies have issued advisories to theiremployees working in US, whose East Coast is battered by asuperstorm.

The domestic IT companies, which get over 60 per cent oftheir revenues from the US, however, said they do not expecttheir business to be adversely affected.

"All our associates have been advised to stay safe andstay indoors. Owing to our strong business continuity plan,customer processes are not expected to be disrupted," a TCSspokesperson said in an emailed statement.

Superstorm Sandy, declared "major disaster" by PresidentBarack Obama, today battered the US East Coast with fiercewinds and heavy rains, killing at least 16 people, plungingmillions into darkness and leaving the New York Stock Exchangeshut for two days in a row for the first time since 1888.

"We are closely monitoring the situation in the US EastCoast in light of the Hurricane Sandy and working with localauthorities to ensure the safety of our employees and theirfamilies. We have also activated business continuityprocedures in collaboration with customers," a HCLTechnologies spokesperson said.

Country's second largest software services company Infosyssaid it has undertaken requisite precautionary measures forthe safety of their employees and "continuity of business forour clients". The company has restricted business travel tothe region for the next few days.

Wipro Technologies Global Head Operations Hari Hegde said,"Safety of our employees is our primary concern at themoment. We have asked all employees in affected areas towork from home today as well and comply with guidance issuedby local US authorities..."

It has also provided guidelines to emergency managementand an International SOS Card that employees can use to callup International SOS in case of any emergency, he added.
