Renault keen to launch MUV, sub-Rs 4 lakh car

French automaker Renault is all set to foray into the sub-Rs 4 lakh car market, which accounts for 40% of all auto sales in the country.

After Duster's success in the SUV segment, the auto manufacturer said it is planning to launch an MUV and a sub-Rs 4 lakh car, competing against the likes of Ford Figo, Hyundai Eon and Chevrolet Beat.

"The objective now is to make sure that in the next introduction of cars, we want to enter the significant segments or growing segments where we are not present today," Renault chairman of Asia Pacific Region Gilles Normand told PTI.

Renault sells five models in the Indian market and is looking to boost sales by nearly 90 per cent this year, riding on its popular sports utility vehicle (SUV) Duster. It also plans to bring variants of the Duster by next year.

He said the current focus in India will be to scale up the production and consolidate it's network reach and the existingproducts.

On combatting the dip in Duster sales, he said, "We are going to manage the life-cycle of this product, you can expect that in the coming months, there will be variations of the Duster."
