IMF chief to visit Asia early December

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde will visit three Asian countries --Cambodia, South Korea, and Myanmar, in early December, the Washington-based global institution said Tuesday.

She will visit Cambodia, South Korea, and Myanmar between Dec2 and 7, the IMF said in a statement.

Lagarde will be in Cambodia Dec2-3, then in South Korea Dec4-5. Third leg of her visit will be in Myanmar Dec 6-7, Xinhua reported.

She will meet with heads of state and senior officials, as well as with parliamentarians, women leaders, students, and representatives of think-tanks, the private sector, and civil society organisations, the Fund added.

The IMF chief said she is very much looking forward to her first trip to the three Asian countries as Managing Director of the IMF.

"I will visit three countries in different stages of transition - Korea, the world's 13th largest economy; Cambodia, a frontier economy on the rise; and Myanmar, undergoing a great awakening to countless possibilities."
