CHENNAI:BSNL Chennai Telephones on Monday said that it expects a 5 per cent growth in its subscription base with the launch of free roaming, which will allow all its mobile customers across the country to receive incoming calls at no cost. Chief General manager of Chennai Telephones S M Kalavathi said that this is the second such scheme launched by BSNL. “This will enhance our subscription base,” she said. Interestingly, this comes after the subscriptions of Chennai Telephones feel by one per cent. She said BSNL mobile customers are no longer required to carry multiple SIMs and handsets during roaming as they are now free to talk as long as they want, without any cost for the incoming calls within BSNL network, wherever they roam within the country. This will particularly benefit the people having transferable jobs, student community and those who have to travel frequently on official or business trips, she added. Cautioning private telecom operators that BSNL’s 4G services once implemented would alter the market, she said BSNL is making efforts to improve its mobile services by upgrading its network. Kalavathi also said that the Wi-Fi hotspot would be ready in Mahabalipuram by next month.
