Sensex, Nifty End Higher; Nifty Achieves 7,700 Level

The Sensex rose 123.43 points to 25145.59 and the Nifty climbed 37.55 points to 7708.95, while the broader outperformed.

NEW DELHI: The market on Tuesday gained positive momentum as it continued to gain for second consecutive session with the Nifty ending above 7700 level for the first time since April 4.

Following Skymet, India Meteorological Department also expects an above normal monsoon rainfall this year, saying monsoon rainfall may be 106 percent of long period average this year and probability of monsoon rainfall being deficient is low.

Jewellery stocks gained after jewellers reopened shops after nearly six weeks of shutdown. The protests ended after the government assured the industry that it could simplify the implementation of a planned excise duty. Shree Ganesh Jewellery House and Tribhuvandas Bhimji Zaveri were among the top gainers from the sector.

Among the gainers in the Sensex, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto and Lupin topped the list, whereas Tata Steel led the losers list.
