CHENNAI: Picking the right time to make your hotel bookings is becoming an art--comfortable, central to the city but also romantic, free breakfast but close to airport, the permutation and combination are dynamic but the one common factor is low cost.
According to travel planning site TripAdvisor, the least expensive times to book hotels around the globe between May and July depends on the region and can be anytime between two and five months in advance.
TripAdvisor’s “Best Time to Book” report, released on Monday, shows that the best time periods to book can vary depending on the region or city where the traveller is looking to visit for the summer. For most destinations, hotel rates change gradually over time, without dramatic rise or fall in price.
Closer to home, for example, the least expensive time to book hotels in Asia is within 3 months - when travellers can save up to 24%, compared to the most expensive booking period, which comes a few days before the scheduled stay. In comparison, for European hotels, the best time to book is between 2 - 5 months ahead, when travellers can save 26% compared to the peak period.
In contrast, the least expensive time to book hotel rooms in the US is within 2 months of the trip. However, hotel prices remain fairly consistent throughout the year, with a modest potential savings of 8% when booking during the least expensive time period. As for cities, some of the highest savings come from cities like Moscow, Jakarta and Syd ney, when booking at the right time result in 40% saving.
