HYDERABAD:Wonderla Holidays Limited is planning to expand to Chennai and add more features at its existing amusement parks. With amusement parks in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kochi, Wonderla is one of the leading amusement parks operators in India. It is now planning to set up a new amusement park in Chennai with an outlay of Rs 300 crore.
“We will soon acquire land for amusement park in Chennai. While the work will begin this year, amusement park in Chennai will be ready by 2019. Besides planning to invest over Rs 300 crore in the Chennai park over the next two years, we will be investing Rs 75 crore in 2017-18 to add more features at existing parks,” Arun K Chittilappilly, managing director, Wonderla Holidays told Express on Tuesday.
A major part of the investment this year will be on Wonderla amusement park in Hyderabad, as the firm is adding ‘virtual realty ride’ at the park with an outlay of Rs 40 crore.
“Amusement parks business is still in nascent stage in India and we are the leading players not just in India but globally. While we’ve seen 30 per cent growth in 2016-17, we are expecting the same growth rate to continue even in 2017-18, as we are seeing good potential. To reach out to more people and increase footfalls, we have unveiled the new brand identity. We are aiming to expand our footprint and emerge as a complete entertainment and hospitality company,” Chittilappilly added.
