BENGALURU:  Glowship, a three-year-old start-up headquartered in Bengaluru, has rolled out a unique platform for rooftop solar in the city, just a month after Tata Power Solar launched an extensive residential rooftop solution across the country. Users can select the optimal solar-based solution, based on their energy requirements.

Households can set up solar rooftops at a cost starting from Rs 30,000 to Rs 2.40 lakh. On an average, a household with a Rs 3,000 monthly bill can achieve 90 per cent reduction in energy bills with the solar, said Srinivas Potukuchi, founder & CEO of Glowship.

“The initial cost is recovered within five to six years, post which the power is essentially free for the remaining life of the system, as solar power systems require minimal ongoing maintenance,” Potukuchi said.

At the moment, Glowship is primarily focusing on the residential and small commercial segments. The company, which already has an e-commerce platform where customers can purchase a variety of solar products, will give its customers an accurate quote along with a comprehensive estimate of the potential benefits for different types of solar rooftop solutions and configurations.

The company plans to roll out similar products in the near future in other places like Chennai, Hyderabad and Coimbatore in the south and tap markets in Delhi and Maharashtra as well.

According to Energy Resources Institute, with the country receiving 300 days of peak sunshine, the total market potential for rooftop solar in urban settlements is estimated to be 124GW. The  rooftop solar market is estimated to exceed Rs150,000 crore by 2025.
