Microsoft in talks with Telangana for setting up USD 2 Billion data centre

Telangana Minister for IT and Industries KT Rama Rao kicked off the process of discussions by initiating dialogues with senior management of Microsoft about a few months ago.

HYDERABAD: If everything goes well, global tech giant Microsoft may be investing Rs15,000 crore (around $2 billion) in Hyderabad for its data centre soon. Unconfirmed reports suggest that Telangana government is in the final stages of negotiations to secure the mammoth investment and as per sources in the government, the data centre might be established within the radius of 30-40 km from the city. 

Information related to the number of jobs which may created and the extent of area in which the data centre would be established are still in the preliminary stages and more information may come out once the company gives a confirmation, which is expected next week, according to a reliable source.  

It can be recalled that Information Technology and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao had announced recently while unveiling the annual report on IT, E&C Department for 2020-21, that Amazon Data Services India Private Limited was also setting-up three data centres in Fab City, Pharma City and Chandanvelly in Telangana, with an investment of Rs 20,761 crore ($2.77 billion).
