BANGALORE: Hemanth Nimbalkar, a 1998 batch IPS officer, in Bangalore and Mumbai, whose house was raided in March by the Lokayukta, was suspended on Friday. During the raid, assets worth Rs 1.5 crore, disproportionate to his known sources of income were recovered.

Nimbalkar, who is related to Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan, is alleged to have connections with the underworld.

Following the raids, the Lokayukta ADGP Roop Kumar Datta wrote to the government seeking his suspension. He is the second IPS officer after the present ADGP Achuta Rao to be suspended on charges of corruption.
