BANGALORE: First chikungunya and now dengue fever. Four to five cases of chikungunya and dengue fever were reported by hospitals here on Friday. KC General hospital received three suspected cases of chikungunya and dengue for which the blood samples have been sent to the National institute of Virology on Friday.
``Out of 17 blood samples, four were found to be positive chikungunya and two for dengue fever cases from DJ halli, KG halli, Shivajinagar areas,’’ said Dr. Rajana, Resident medical officer of Bowring and Lady Curzon hospital.
Despite BBMP claiming that proper measures have already been undertaken in order to make the areas clean and mosquito-free, the residents of DJ Halli have a different tale to say.
Though BBMP has undertaken house-to-house surveys, it is restricted to few areas. Inspite of organising camps, the palike is still unable to cater to the patients’ requirement for basic medical facilities.
HOSPITALS PREPARE FOR SWINE FLU Regional Director for Health and Family Welfare C Anbazhagan and State Director Usha Vasunkar on Friday inspected the five-bed facility which has been readied at the Victoria Hospital in the city. The new facility along with the eight-bed facility at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases supports the State directorate’s emergency preparedness with respect to H1N1 flu.
Usha said that barring a few modifications which will be done soon, the isolation facility is ready at the Victoria Hospital. Another facility will be set up at the Bowring Hospital - the two being in the city centre, things will be much easier if the need to quarantine a person actually arises upon screening at the airport, she said.
The state government had in a meeting called immediately after the alert on H1N1 flu apprised private healthcare providers on the necessities of the situation.
