BANGALORE: Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha leader Vatal Nagaraj on Friday led a protest in front of the BBMP head office pressing the government to conduct elections to the BBMP at the earliest.

The team led by Nagaraj entered the BBMP administrator’s chamber on the first floor of the building and raised slogans against the government and criticised the government for delaying the polls for the civic body for over two years now.

Speaking to Express, Nagaraj said: “We are protesting against the government for having delayed the process of elections to the Palike. Also, we criticise the latest proposal of having 198 wards. There is no requirement to increase the number of wards, the earlier set 147 was the limit.” The presence of the MLAs, MLCs and members of Rajya Sabha is also not required, he added. Nagaraj and his team protested in the BBMP administrator’s office for about half-an-hour till the police arrived and about 30 people were taken into custody. They were taken to the Ulsoor police station and then released.
