What of Malini's narco -analysis subjects ?

Malini who was discharged from her duties from fabricating mark cards, did narco-analysis tests on Telgi and Abu Salem.

BANGALORE: Now that Dr Malini, a narco-analyst has been discharged from her duties as Deputy Director FSL one wonders what the fate of the hundreds of cases of narco-analysis conducted by her be? The cases also include that of multi-crore stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi, underworld gangster Abu Salem, and several terror cases.

Dr Malini was discharged from the duties for producing fabricated marks cards for her appointment in the department. So, the narco-analysis reports prepared by her in several investigations must be verified again, a senior police officer said.

But, as of now, there is no authorised narcospecialist at the FSL. For the pending narcoanalysis tests, agencies will have to approach the Ahmedabad laboratory, the only other location where narco-tests are conducted.

“If police want to continue using narco technique, they should go to any psychiatrist. However they must stop using this primitive method which the rest of the world has discarded,” the officer insisted.

Courts in India do not accept the narco revelations as evidence. It may be recalled that a team of doctors from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences submitted a report, stating that there is no scientific evidence to substantiate such test results.

It is said that the narco analysis test were done during the world-war-II for interrogating prisoners of war, but later was banned by rest of the world. Only Bangalore and Ahmedabad FSLs are still doing narco-analysis tests in India to support police investigation. Experts inject a subject with hypnotic substances like Sodium Pentothal or Sodium Amytal under the controlled circumstances of the laboratory.
