BANGALORE: THE fraud and misappropriation squad sleuths of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) nabbed an unemployed youth who was making quick bucks by creating bogus marks cards for failed students of the Bangalore University (BU).
The accused, Madhu, a resident of Magadi Road, was nabbed when he came to collect rubber stamps and seals, which were all in the name of senior BU officials.
Madhu, who is a college drop out, used to approach students who have failed in various degree courses from the university and assure them of 'better' marks in exchange for a few thousand rupees.
"He would collect their failed marks card and approach a stationary shop that manufactures rubber stamps," the police said.
Using duplicate seals, Madhu used to attest the marks cards and forge the signature of the officials, a skill he had practised to perfection.
The scam came to light when the accused asked Kiran Kumar, owner of Kiran stationary, which is situated in Seshadripuram, to make rubber stamps of all BU officials.
Kumar got suspicious when Madhu showed him a marks card and asked him to make a rubber stamp of the BU registrar. Kumar informed the police, who nabbed Madhu when he came to collect the stamps from the stationary shop.
The police have recovered around 10 failed marks cards from Madhu's house along with several rubber stamps, letter heads and other stationery.
CCB inspector Uday Bhaskar, is investigating the case to ascertain whether Madhu is part of a larger gang.
