BANGALORE: A 65yearold woman who was riding pillion with her son was killed on the spot as a Tata Sumo hit their bike from behind near Banashankari bus stop on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Kamala Devi while her son Bala Govinda Ray (27), an employee of Himalaya Drug House, sustained injuries.

Police said the incident occurred when both were on their way home near Bannerghatta Road, when a speeding Tata Sumo rammed into the bike killing Kamala Devi on the spot.

Later, when the body was brought to Victoria Hospital, Ray alleged that the police did not show any interest in nabbing the driver or seize the vehicle.

Vehicle owner Muniraj claimed that his driver Vadivelu went absconding after the incident.

Muniraj said he too was in the vehicle when the incident happened and took the body to the hospital.

Ray said Muniraj was on the driver's seat when the mishap took place.

Chain snatching

Two cases of chain snatching were reported in the city on Tuesday.

On Monday night, two miscreants on bike snatched a 50 gm chain from one Umadevi, a resident of Sheshadripuram, while she was returning home after shopping in the market.

The incident took place on Market Road. A case has been registered in Sheshadripuram police station.

In another incident, Chandramma, a resident of Srinivasanagar, lost her 70 gm gold chain when two miscreants pulled it and escaped on Tuesday morning.

Hanumanatanagar police have registered a case.

8 held for murder

Adugodi police arrested eight men for murdering a rowdy and stealing an ancient idol on Tuesday.

The accused have been identified as Satish (34), Mohan alias Khada (25), Murali (24), Nicolas alias Kuttu (25), Anand alias Papa (23), Vinod (23), Harish alias Mani (25) and Atavulla Khan (24) all of Adugodi.

According to the police, the accused hacked one rowdy Nagaraja alias Naga at Mahalingeshwara Layout and robbed him of `1 lakh in cash. They also stole the Ardhanarishwar idol from a temple.
