Dr Siddappa appointed incharge head of BMCRI

BANGALORE: Medical Superintendent of Vani Villas Hospital Dr O S Siddappa has been appointed incharge dean and director of the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI).

Dr Siddappa replaced Dr G T Subhas whose term expired on May 4.

Dr Subhas had continued on the post despite differences between Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and the then Medical Education Minister Ramachandra Gowda over his appointment.

After Gowda resigned from his post, speculations over who will occupy the top post of the BMCRI came to an end on Tuesday with the announcement.

While the chief minister had recommended the name of Medical Superintendent of Vanivilas Hospital Dr Siddappa for the BMCRI top job, Gowda was in favour of retaining Dr Subhas.

The present Medical Education Minister S A Ramdas said till the appointment of a permanent director, Dr Siddappa will be incharge director of the BMCRI.

"There are no rules for the appointment of the director for the BMCRI", said Ramdas. "His name was suggested by the chief minister and the file was due for a long time with me."

Apart from Dr Siddappa, the other contenders for the post were Dr B G Tilak of Victoria Hospital and Dr Satish Chandra of Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital.

Speaking to the Express about his future plan as the incharge director of BMCRI, Dr Siddappa said he would soon start an ambulance facility to shift patients from Victoria Hospital out patients department to Vani Villas Hospital.

He said renovation of the road to Victoria Hospital and an information centre for out patients department were his top priority projects.

The medical superintendent of Vani Villas Hospital is yet to be appointed.
