BANGALORE: Janata Dal (Secular), which played a key role in exposing several land scams involving Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and his kin, has decided to boycott the inquiry commission set up to probe the scams.

Former High Court judge Justice B Padmaraj is heading the inquiry commission. M C Nanaiah, JD(S) Leader in the Legislative Council, told reporters on Tuesday that the inquiry committee was just an eyewash.

He said the committee could at best submit a report on the government. He said it was upon the government whether to accept the report or not. He said in this context, the JD(S) would boycott the probe.

Also, Nanaiah questioned the government’s decision to extend the scope of inquiry into all the illegalities in land denotification that might have taken place since 1995.

“This is being done to delay the process. Considering the scope of inquiry, the commission requires at least three years to give its interim report, forget about final recommendations. By that time, Yeddyurappa’s tenure would be over”, Nanaiah said.

He added that if the chief minister was really serious to bring out the truth, let him restrict the probe to the cases of nepotism and favouritism by the successive governments since 1995 and refer them to Lokayukta.
