BANGALORE: A woman reportedly poisoned her 3-year-old child and then consumed poison at Weaver's Colony in Chamarajapet police limits, on Monday night.

Police said Padma (22) may have been driven to take this step because of her husband's huge debts.

Police said Chandramohan, who is an autorickshaw driver and owned a CD shop, was suffering from cancer and was admitted to Victoria Hospital for treatment.

He also has a debt of Rs 1.5 lakh on him as he indulged in gambling too.

Police said Padma may have been dejected with this and took this extreme step.

The incident came to light when Chandramohan sent his friends to his house when Padma did not turn up at the hospital to give him food. When his friends came to the house, they found both the mother and child dead, police said.

A case has been registered.
