BANGALORE:  The Public Relations Officer, BBMP clarifies: This is reference to the news item appeared in your newspaper dated Sept 13, under the caption ‘’Residents decry poor roads’’. In this context, the Assistant Executive Engineer (KR Puram) sub-division has submitted the report and it has been proposed to asphalt the Krishna Theatre Road in Basavanapura ward. it has been proposed to construct a 540 metre-long rain water drain on this road and about 300 metres of the civil works on this project has been completed.

This drain has to be connected to the main canal and civil works has to be done another 240 metres.

A tender had been called for to construct 540-metre long drain at a cost of `2.12 crore. But upon finding the quality of mud  was different than expected at the beginning of the work, the design has been changed upon the suggestions given by experts to increase the thickness of concrete layer and filling boulders under the drain. As such, only 300 mts of length was possible with the amount sanctioned for this project.

The Chief Engineer of BBMP had inspected this work on June 17 and instructed that work should be limited to the sanctioned amount and to take a fresh sanction for completing the balance of work and call for fresh tenders.

As such work has been limited to the sanctioned amount and fresh sanction is awaited for completing the balance of work.

In view of the above situation, rain water has collected in the canal and is not flowing further. The main rain water drain has been connected to the smaller rain water drains and excess water is flowing out of these drains.

As a result of the civil works taken up, a portion of Krishna Theatre road has been dug up, and the remaining portion shall be filled after the completion of the drain. Once the mud gets settled on this part, it will be concreted.

Borewell has been dug up through BWSSB from the funds allotted by Palike to ease the problem of drinking water problem in this area.

Action has been taken to maintain the cleanliness by removing the bushes and other weeds in the vacant sites/lands on either side of the roads.
