BANGALORE: For this 20- year old young couple life would have been different if they had taken different decision.

The frightened intercaste couple, afraid of going against their parents’ consent and marrying, ended their lives by hanging at a city based lodge near Upparpet police station. The boy Sharath Chandra, was a resident of Magadi and L Harshashree, a native of Magadi, were both students studying in Ramnagar government polytechnic college and Bangalore Medical College respectively.

Accroding to the police, the couple had paid two days advance bill and had checked into National Lodge on Monday morning. On Tuesday, the couple went out and reached the lodge by evening.

The next day there was no response when a hotel staffer knocked their door.

Growing suspicious when he peeped through, he found the duo hanging from the ceiling fan.

Reportedly, Harshashree had sent an SMS to her father Lakshmi Narasimhaiah, an agriculturist, saying Sharat had kidnapped her.

Following the SMS , her father had filed a kidnap case in Victoria Hospital police station on Tuesday morning.

“It looks like she had tried to mislead her parents with that SMS. She has sent the SMS after checking into the lodge. Though the reason for suicide is not clear, it is suspected that the duo feared their parents would not permit them to marry as they belonged to different castes,” the police added.

Her father in his statement has stated that they knew about the couple’s relationship and he had warned the boy’s parents to keep their son away. The boy’s father is said to be an employee of sericulture department.

Abdul Sattar, the manager of the lodge, said that they gave them the room only after knowing their purpose of visit. “Sharath introduced the girl as his sister and said that they had come to the city as she had some exam. The room was given only after she produced her ID card,” he added.

Harshashree, in her diary, has written that she loved her parents a lot but was not fateful to live with them for a long time.

“In my next birth I will be your son and serve you. I am afraid that we will not be able to live together forever,” she had written.
