Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is honouring this act of Lakshmi Devi by commissioning her life-size statue; to be installed on BBMP premises.

Even as BBMP celebrates Kempegowda Day, the Council recently approved a suggestion to install the statue. According to HMT Ward corporator Asha Suresh, she got to know about the sacrifice while reading a book on Kempegowda. “It is our duty to honour the lady who sacrificed her life. Off the 198 corporators, 33 per cent are women. There is no statue of a woman on BBMP premises ,” she said. Deputy Mayor S Harish said that the statue will be made out of bronze. “We are currently estimating the cost of the statue. It will be installed within three months.” However, BBMP is yet to finalise the location for the statue.
