BANGALORE: A 28-year-old widow, who was allegedly set on fire by her paramour, succumbed to injuries on Monday night.

The victim, identified as Rukmini, a resident of Srinivasapura, was in love with Ganesh, the accused. The incident, according to the police, occurred on March 10 after a quarrel. Ganesh allegedly poured kerosene and set her on fire. However, she succumbed to injuries at a private hospital, the police added.

In a statement to the police, Rukmini claimed that Ganesh set her on fire and escaped. Bagalur police have registered a case of murder and are interrogating Ganesh.

In another incident, Vijayalakshmi (28), a house wife, who was set on fire by allegedly her husband over a family dispute, succumbed to injuries on Sunday.

According to the police, the victim and her husband Ravi, a cobbler, were residents of Guddepalya near Lalbagh. Ravi alleggedly set her on fire over a family dispute on March 25. Vijayalakshmi was shifted to Victoria Hospital by the neighbours. However, she succumbed to injuries  on Sunday evening, the police stated.
