BANGALORE: Uncovered ditches are posing to be a problem for the residents of Kalidasa Nagar in Hosakerehalli. Residents claim that the corporation has not maintained these ditches for over 25 years now, after it was transferred from BDA to the BBMP.

The problem in the area being that the ditches have been dug up but have not been covered by slabs. As the silt flows during monsoon, these ditches fill up with mud. The blocked ditches have not even been cleared in some places.

Moreover,  people see this as an opportunity and dump garbage in the open ditch. The garbage blocks the flow of water and overflows when it rains. “BBMP officials inspected and had assured us that the work will be done. But nothing has been done so far,” a resident informs. There are a few houses which have slabs in front of them but the residents say they got them done on their own. They also inform that this is the case only in certain portions of the area. Another resident adds on, “We have a problem of garbage disposal over the ditch not being covered. This will not just threat residents but also the motorists,” resident complained.
