BANGALORE:  Mayor Sharadamma who is stepping down from her post next week, clarified that there will be no reduction in the Mayor’s funds.

Sharadamma had reportedly threatened to resign from her post if the Mayor’s funds were reduced from `150 crore to `40 crore. She told reporters on Wednesday that `120 crore has already been released. “Remaining amount will be released soon,” she added.

She also said that `6 crore has been released under medical grants. “I have cleared files which came to me seeking medical relief,” she said. When asked that `9 crore was spent under medical grants last year, she said that medical aid cannot be compared.

Further, she claimed that many of the developmental works that were going at a snail’s pace for the past many years, have been completed during her tenure. This includes Tagore Circle underpass, Kadirenahalli underpass and many more. She also claimed that property tax collection has been increased and the Vajapayee Arogyashree scheme was launched for economically weaker sections.

Sharadamma also claimed that under the 22.75 per cent scheme, in addition to 25 houses for SC/ST community, eight additional houses were constructed for general category people in each ward.

She said, “I have the desire to work for people but time is less. But I will continue to work for them in future.”
