BANGALORE: Jayashree dared to take on a man who tried to break into her house by cutting through the sheet on the top. Armed with a machete, she made the burglar sit on the sheet till the police reached the spot and handed him over to cops.

A private employee and a diploma student at S J P Evening College, Jayashree was alone on the eve of Ugadi at her residence in Nandini Layout. Her brothers had gone to their native place near Maddur. While sleeping, she woke up to noise of someone trying to break the sheet at around 2 am.

“I was clear that some burglars were trying to break into the house. I decided that I would not give up easily and picked up a machete and my mobile phone and came out. I noticed a man sitting on the top and was trying to break the sheet. I warned him that I would kill him if he tried to come down. He was afraid to jump from the top. Meanwhile, I called the police, who came immediately and took him into custody. I leave home early in the morning for work. So, I had stored the police station number and it helped me in informing the police,” said Jayashree, who was felicitated by the city police on Friday.
