Engg student hangs self

A 21-year-old engineering student committed suicide at her house in Muthyalammanagar in Yeshwantpur on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Pavithra, a resident of Gokula Extension, who was a student of Reva Institute of Technology and Management in Yelahanka. 

According to the police, the incident took place around 12 pm when she was alone at home. Her father Prasad, who runs a ration store, came home for lunch and repeatedly knocked the door. When there was no response, he broke the door open and found her body hanging. She had hanged herself to the ceiling after locking up a room, the police said. No suicide note was found.

It is said that Pavithra had failed in a couple of subjects in her previous semester examination. Fearing that she would again fail in her ongoing 6th semester exam, she has taken this extreme step, the police said.

Auto Driver Killed

A 27-year-old auto driver was killed and his friend severely injured when their auto toppled after ramming into a boulder, which was kept on the road for a BWSSB manhole maintenance work on Hebbal main road on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Rajesh, a native of Channapatna. His friend Jameer, 18, sustained severe injuries.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 10 pm when on they were were going towards Boopsandra.   Jameer’s condition is said to be serious.
