Man kills wife over dowry

A 23-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband at her house in Shivanandanagar in J P Nagar VI Phase on Friday night. It is said that she was smothered to death and he slept besides the body till the incident came to light.

The victim has been identified as Pushpa, a native of Anekal, who was married to Venkatesh, 29, a flower merchant two years ago.

According to the police, the incident came to light around 9 am when Venkatesh’s mother Sanjeevamma went to wake the couple. She found blood marks around Pushpa’s nose and informed the police. It is said that Venkatesh was suffering from brain tumour for the last six months and was missing from last few days.

He had returned home a day ago and smothered her with a pillow while she was asleep around midnight, the police said.

The victim’s mother Narayanamma and brother Manjunath claimed that Venkatesh and his family members were harassing Pushpa for dowry for the last one year and Sanjevamma was forcing him to kill Pushpa. The J P Nagar police, who have registered a case have , arrested Venkatesh.
