Mobile shop told to pay relief

The Third Additional District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum pulled up a mobile phone shop for deficiency in service and ordered it to pay `1,000 as compensation to a complainant and `2,000 as costs of the proceedings.

Rekha Surendra Jain had purchased a Nokia Lamia 710 mobile phone on October 6, 2011 from Pai International Electronics Ltd at Basavanagudi paying `15,100. But within a year, the set had software and battery problems. She gave it for repair but the problems were not solved. The shop refused to entertain her. Later, she approached the consumer forum seeking direction to Nokia India Pvt Ltd to refund its cost. Hearing the complaint, the forum ordered the company to refund the cost and also told the shop to pay `1,000 as compensation.
