The vacation bench of the High Court on Friday refused to order a stay on division bench’s order directing the state government and the BMRCL to remove B R Ambedkar’s statue in front of Vidhana Soudha as the Metro was being delayed.
Hearing the petition by DSS state secretary Mavalli Shankar and nine others, a division bench comprising Justice H Billappa and Justice V Suri Appa Rao, refused the stay order and ordered issuance of notices to the state government and the BMRCL.
It directed them to file an affidavit on shifting the statue.
The bench said make advocate A V Amarnatha as one of the party in the case, who filed a PIL seeking directions to shift the statue.
The counsel of the petitioners said, “The Metro work in front of Vidhana Soudha is completed. There is no need to shift the statue.”
