The  Class 9 and 10 students and the Social Department of Pon Vidyashram, Valasaravakkam, paid homage to our freedom fighters in a unique way. They participated in a Dandi and Vedaranyam March held in their school campus on January 23 as part of their CCE activity.

The programme, titled ‘PRAVAAH’, brought to life the theme of freedom of expression with students donning the roles of freedom fighters and holdng a typical Dandi-type procession on the school grounds.

The students recreated the milieu of the Vedaranyam Salt Satygraha led by Dr C Rajagopalachari, amidst chants of Vande Mataram and rendition of patriotic songs by Bharatiyar and Kavimani Desiya Vinayagem Pillai. They highlighted the  achievements of the freedom fighters with a line of inspiring speeches.

Following the march, a radio show titled ‘Democrazy’, which highlighted the    role of responsible citizens  in a democratic country,      was hosted by the students.  Class 11 students enacted a short skit on the Consumer Protection Act.

The event ended with a powerpoint presentation by the chief guest, K Sethuraman, on the Right to Information Act (RTI).
