BANGALORE: Not cooking food proved fatal to a 25-year-old security guard as he was allegedly stabbed to death by his friends in their room in Vinayakanagar in Wilson Garden police station limits late on Thursday night. However, the police succeeded in nabbing all the five accused within two-and-a-half-hours after the incident took place.

The victim has been identified as Anantkumar Jina while Subhash, Santosh, Devdar, Fariya and Fayaz are the accused. All accused are aged around 25 years and both victim and accused are natives of Odissa. They had come to the city in search of job and had joined as security guards.

The police said that they had rented out a room and it was Jina’s turn to prepare food on Thursday. But he had not cooked food by the time his friends returned. Angered by this, his friends picked up a quarrel with him and Jina reportedly assaulted one of them. Raged by his attitude, his friends took a knife and stabbed him and fled the scene.

The room owner heard him screaming and informed the police. He succumbed while being shifted to a hospital. “Meanwhile, the accused were nabbed just two hours after the incident while they were trying to leave the city,” the police added. Wilson Garden police have registered a case and are investigating.

Three Held for Theft

The sleuths of the Homicide and Burglary squad of the CCB arrested three persons including a couple in connection with house breaking and theft cases. Booty worth `19.5 lakh has been recovered from them.

The accused has been identified as Mallikarjuna alias Punit alias Nanda (22), a native of Gulbarga and a resident of JP Nagar sixth stage.

The police said that he used to identify lonely houses on the outskirts of the city and robbed them when the dwellers had gone out. Gold ornaments worth `11 lakh, three laptops, cash `6 lakh and other goods, total worth about `19.5 lakh, have been recovered from him.

In the meantime, a couple identified as Suryanarayana Heggade (47) and his wife Netravathi (38), residing at JP Nagar V phase have also been arrested for allegedly giving him shelter and disposing the stolen items.

Youth Commits Suicide

Satish Kumar (25), a native of Tamil Nadu and a resident of Brindavana Layout in Chikka Adugodi, ended his life by hanging at his room on Thursday evening. The reason for the suicide is yet to be ascertained. The police said that Satish who had come to the city about two years ago was working at a textile shop in Jayanagar. He was staying at a rented room along with friends. On Thursday evening, he came to room and hanged himself. The incident came to light when his friends returned in the night. Madiwala police have registered a case of unnatural death in this connection and are investigating the reason for the suicide.
