BANGALORE: The Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has warned that if strict actions are not taken against the tainted Vice Chancellor of Vishwesharaya Technological University H Maheshappa, thousands of engineering students will go on strike on February 8 under the leadership of ABVP.

This is in regard to the recent verdict passed by high court agreeing that false information was submitted by him to the search committee and Government regarding his academic credentials. The court had then directed the Governor to take appropriate action against him. In a press conference held in the city on Tuesday, National Secretary Vinay Bidre stated that the Governor was going against the directive of the High Court by appointing retired Justice Abhay Gohil to probe into the matter.

“Is the governor trying  to protect the VC?,” Bidre asked.

Bidre also lashed out at the VC for not having resigned on his own when allegations were almost proved.

“The silence of the state government in this regard is also questionable,” Bidre said.

ABVP has demanded to bar Maheshappa from taking any major decisions for the university especially with regards to finance.
