BANGALORE: In a special checking drive, Transport Department has booked 2,106 cases and collected Rs 1.40 crore as tax and penalty. The drive was especially against Light Motor vehicles and Motor cycles registered in other states and found plying in the state evading tax. The drive was carried out between January 16 and January 28.

Eight special squads were formed under the guidance of Joint Commissioner for Transport H G Kumar comprising 30 Motor Vehicle Inspectors who were summoned from various RTO offices like Bidar, Bijapur, Belgaum, Davanagere, Chitradurga. “In our drive at different places of Bangalore City we checked about 9891 vehicles and have booked 1078 cases against Light Motor vehicles which have been registered in other states and found plying in the city without payment of tax,” said H G Kumar.
