BANGALORE: Two women were arrested on Monday on charges of selling a three-year-old girl child for Rs 5,000 in Chikaballapur district, the police said.
The two have been remanded to judicial custody, police said, adding one man, a co-accused in the case, is absconding.
The two women sold the child to another woman in Gudibande, about 70 km away from here a few days ago, the police said.
The child’s mother, in a complaint to the police, alleged that her child was “forcibly” taken away by the two women and the man following a personal dispute. The child’s father is undergoing sentence in connection with a murder case, the police said.
The police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
