The grand finals of  the Debating Society 2011-12 of Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Senior Secondary Schools was held at Vani Mahal, T Nagar, on February 3.

The hot debate on the topic ‘This house believes that democracy is the reason for India’s slower economic growth’, had the students of PSBB Nungambakkam proposing the motion and PSBB K K Nagar opposing it.

PSBB KKN emerged   winners of the grand trophy while PSBB NGM was the runner up. The ‘best individual speaker’ award went to Arush Nayar, a  Class 9 student of PSBB KKN while Kaustub Narendran of the same school was adjudged the second best speaker followed by Keshav of PSPB NGM who came third.

Chief guest Saranayan Krishnan, IAS, Secretary to Government, Finance Department, and an alumnus of the school, addressed the audience on the subtle points of the debate and congratulated the institution for taking the initiative.

He suggested that the debate format could be slightly changed to engage the audience by allowing them to ask the speaker questions. Dean and director of PSBB Group of Schools Dr YGP presided over the event.
