BANGALORE: India ranks third on Google’s list of largest markets after the USA and China. Google Country marketing head, Nikhil Rungta, discussing YouTube’s Space Lab programme on Wednesday said,  “YouTube alone has around 25 million unique users in the country. This is a huge number for YouTube and for Google.”  The country is estimated to have a total of 120 million Internet users according to Google.

Around 25 per cent of all Google’s registered users in the country access YouTube through their mobile phones. This is reflective of the enormous reach of mobile phones in a country where the penetration of personal computers is still in initial stages.

Citing a UN Report which had said that India has more mobile phones than toilets, Rungta stated that the mobile market would fuel the next generation of internet users in his opinion.

With close to 600 million mobile phone connections, Google sees a huge market potential in the country for mobile phone internet access.
