BANGALORE: The People’s Campaign for Right to Water, Karnataka, opposed the drafting of Indian National Water Policy 2012 issued by the Ministry of Water Resources. The group blamed the Union government for privatising water to serve the corporate interests, which in turn by- passes the democratic norms.

Speaking to media, Coordinator, PCRW, Prabhakaran  said, “By drafting new water policy, it is clear that the Government of India is being subservient to the pressure of international financial institutions and is ready to sacrifice democratic principles and the opinion of India, for the sake of private interests.”    He added that three other states had rejected the new water policy. It is unfortunate that Karnataka is embracing the same.
