BANGALORE:  Slovenian Ambassador to India Janez Premoze  announced the opening of a consulate office in the city to mark the 20 years’ celebrations of  the formation of the Republic of Slovenia.

In a meeting with media persons, Premoze stated that their country is interested in cultural exchanges with India. “There is an increase in the number of Slovenians visiting India. Similarly, the tourists from India visiting Slovenia has doubled with nearly 10,000 people visiting this year. We have seen many of our students and others come to India to learn Hindi, Sanskrit, classical Indian dance and finearts,” he said.  

Stating that their academic ties with India have increased over the years, he said that there are over 18 Memoranda of Understanding signed between the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) with Slovenian research institutions.  “We are also looking at exchanges in the areas of IT”, he said and clarified that this would be in joint trainings and evaluation exercises of IT   engineers.
