BANGALORE: Bangalore University (BU) Vice Chancellor Dr N Prabhudev has sought public opinion in  establishing the School of Economics. A press release from BU stated that the Academic Council of BU had approved the proposal to establish the Bangalore School of Economics (BSE) under the university, which would be a research centre dedicated to Economics as an institute of excellence.

In this regard, a study group consisting of Vice Chancellor as the Chairman, former Director of Infosys Mohandas Pai as Co-chairman and other academicians like Prof Sadagopan, Prof K Parthasarathy, Prof Roopa Chand and Dr R Rajesh as members  has prepared a detailed report to establish the BSE.

Meanwhile, Jindal group came forward to release Rs 100 crore for the establishment of Dr Sitaram Jindal School of Economics in BU.

BU will provide the required land in Jnana Bharathi campus for construction of the new academic building. This includes 50 acres of land that will have residential campus.

VC stated that over the past one-and-a-half months, a section of Syndicate members has openly accused the VC of  selling the land to Jindal. “The matter was to be placed before the Academic Council on Dec 27, but with apprehensions about the viability of the Rs 100 crore project, I have withdrawn. Now, I am placing this issue before the public, who should tell me whether, it should be established under BU or outside but under UGC Act or no such school can be established,” he stated. Public can send their opinion to nprabhudev@gmail.com
